December 31st: Full year down

I did a full year of blogging and while I was a lazy sloth in September, I managed to at least create a post for every day.

Don't forget to write a gratitude list for 2012. People always make resolutions but totally forget about the amazingness the previous year brought into their lives. It's all about being grateful and aware of greatness around you.

A little super basic round-up of my year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

DECEMBER

flew to Melbourne to see Alexisonfire's last ever Australia gig and to enjoy the city for a few days

went to the beach for what was only the 2nd time this year - and this was YESTERDAY!!! :D Got a resolution right there.

NOVEMBER

went to my first work Xmas party and well..the cliches are true!

OCTOBER

Dan as Ferris Bueller totally stole the show on Halloween. I was Daria. Lol.

SEPTEMBER

In September I went overseas for two weeks and made the most of my spare time. I also dressed in a different colour than black for once. It was quite a daring experience. Ha! I also got promoted from sales assistant to area manager. Stoked.

AUGUST

had my photo taken with two of the most successful porn actresses :D

JULY

Celebrated two years of awesome times and awful photos with this one

JUNE

found an almost identical copy of a sweater my Dad bought in the 80ies and that my parents used to share (cuties). I claim it still exists.

post travel come-down and chill out. the only thing I miss about our old house is the back patio

I saw my family (in real life!!!), I traveled parts of Europe, it was a pretty great start to the year.

I visited Prague with Dan

Dan and I explored Venice

December 27th: The come down

Hope everyone is disgusted with how much money was spent yesterday.
I know I am. I heard a girl say at 10:30 am that she had spent $ 2 k already and that she's planning on spending way more.

Well..here is my share of the cake.

I bought these boots today, because they are awesome. I have praised their greatness once before.
There is nothing clothing-related that gets me as excited as a nice pair of boots, really.



I also bought this nice little sleeveless number from Glassons for $ 30.

You see...no useless sale spending for me this year. Just two basic and sturdy objects that will accompany me through the rest of summer and beyond.

December 26th: Boxing Day madness

It baffles me why people would voluntarily enter a shopping centre on Boxing Day. Don't they realise it's just a scammy sale retailers put on to get rid of all the shitty stock noone wanted to buy, all while tricking people into buying lots of full priced stock? The dynamics that Boxing Day sales create are scary and quite frankly show the lack of individuality and extend of peer pressure our society is suffering from. I don't mean to sound like a dickhead, but is it really that horrible to miss out on a sale? Can people NOT live happily without crowding their lives with shit they don't need and just buy because they see a red price tag and a horde of other people wanting it?

In Austria the 26th is a public holiday. Yes, that means all shops are closed. We spend Boxing Day with our extended family, having a few drinks and copious amounts of homemade Xmas cookies and talk about old times and look at old photo albums and laugh and cry and think of everyone in our family that couldn't be with us anymore and make memories for life we can share with our unborn children.

Maybe it's time to think about why we distract ourselves from all the meaningful experiences in life and choose to consume instead.

December 25th: Presents

Trying to caress my aching body today. I have done nothing but re-merching stores over the last week and am officially over it.



Thankfully Dan hasn't decided to leave my over-worked never-at-home arse just yet and has showered me with awesome gifts this year.

 This Totoro music box is most likely going to be the only present I ever shed a happy tear over. Including my unborn children. It platys the title song and the umbrella and little spirits move up and down.




Also super amazing is the 50 dvd Ghibli collection I got as an early Xmas present. Most of them are Japanese with English subtitles. I am sure I'll be fluent by the time we visit.
And I also got a tablet which was supposed to be my electronic organiser but has since been used for basically everything but work related purposes (or blogging..).

December 24th: Fail

Frontrowshop.com is a pretty affordable and conveniently small online shop - unlike ASOS or topshop I don't risk waisting hours of my life clicking through pages and pages of same old same old. I don't really understand the hype about her person and her videos. She isn't really eloquent or particularly smart and her middle class high school education level opinions on pretty serious stuff are really just wasting people's brain juices. No even worse, they feel their narrow-minded way of looking at stuff (especially gender-related) are approved off and completely justifiable. Fuck off Marbles. Go and have a cry about all the girls who enjoy casual sex and don't feel the urge to "get to know a guy who can take care of them". What a load of bullshit.

December 16th: Take off your pants and jacket

I forgot to mention I had Blink 182 tickets for March. My husband is kind of a genius crossed with a lucky cat.

Anyway, I am actually trying to make a witty reference to how incredible FARKING hot it is in Australia and how much I would love to dispose of clothing items in general (unless someone is sewing up a microfiber super sweat-absorbing bodysuit for me in this very moment). Since I am not part of a tribe in the South-East Asian rain forest society expects me to clothe my body in fancy fabric. I still decided to ditch the conventional old padded bra for something a little lighter, a little fancier in colour (fancying the word "fancy" today, are we?). I opted for lace bralettes. Whoo hoo.
And yes, while they might support the old "pointy boob" aesthetics, at least they cannot be held accountable for sweaty boobs. Every.

I decided on the two most discreet colours ever perceived by the human eye.

December 15th: Retailer let down

I was extremely excited for Melbourne's boutiques and European high street shops (speak Zara, Mango, Topshop) but was utterly disappointed when I got there. The high street fashion just isn't up to speed with what's going on back home (amazingness!) and the little boutiques I remembered were all turned into super cheap disposable clothing shops.
Let's face it: Everyone is copying each other, every boutique or Australian owned young and hip online shop stocks the same cheap designer knock offs and I have had a gut full. I really feel there is a market for affordable clothing that is different to what everyone (everyone!!) is selling at the moment.

Remember 10 years ago, when you went into a store and they stocked completely different clothes to the store around the corner? You could tell straight away where something was purchased from and every store had a different image attached to it.
I kind of miss that.

It's a bit scary to think that all retailers would like us to become conformists, chasing after one particular trend at a time, then declaring it "unwearable" by putting it on the sale rack and introducing another trend item so desirable, everyone must own it.

So if you are expecting a solution to this problem, well prepare yourself for a big disappointment. I don't really know. I am still feeding off clothes I systematically accumulated over the two weeks I was in Europe for in September. I buy bits and pieces here and there, but it's mostly accessories and I have become extremely hesitant about purchasing things, especially statement dresses. I bought a backless dress a couple of weeks back that is yet to be worn, but I will most likely try to get rid of it on eBay. "Why?", you might think. Well, in the last 2 weeks I have seen it in 12 (!) different stores.

Thankfully I have a super sweet mother who loves receiving and then sending over parcels of clothes from European retailers that are yet to ship to Australia. It makes me quite happy seeing nobody else in a dress I didn't have to empty my bank account for.

I would pay $ 150 for this. I don't wear reverse crosses or satanic symbols though...so there goes the dress and its subtle but SAAAW UNIF symbols. Man, I am too scared of becoming possessed and even more scared of  exorcism. Phew. via dollskill.com

December 9th: Re-connecting

 I re-potted plants today and haven't felt this calm and content in a while.
My job is super hectic, yes,  but it really is the constant confrontation with conflict
that I find draining. In my personal life I avoid conflict in a way that I never usually
leave a problem floating around until it turns into one. I think I am quite efficient that way.
So dealing with super stressful situations at least 5 days per week is something
I have to get used to first.

I have this image in my head of a successful business woman, juggling family and
job, while constantly looking fabulous. It's not like that. At all.
My nail polish is chipped, I could do with shaving my legs and the dirty dishes
are collecting at the sink. And I have neglected this blogasaurus way to much in the last 3 months.
But you know what, it doesn't matter. It's not about being perfect. Being perfect sucks to be honest.
I much rather re-pot my plants and sweat my butt off in the sun, than be perfect, as lame as this may sound.
I much rather have a laugh with my husband than get my nails done.

It's quite an enlightening experience for me to find that the source of my own
content lies within organic, honest activities.

December 8th: Crossfire hurricane

Remember the days before everyone was downloading
episodes of whatever took their fancy or before TIVO existed?
Yes, you actually had to stick to a TV time table and couldn't
just sit down one Saturday afternoon to watch the entire 200 seasons
of  Friends in one go.
Dan and I are going old school again, watching "Crossfire Hurricane"
on ABC 2. They decided to split up the documentary into 3 or 4 parts (I am yet to find out) and the excitement that is building up in between every part is pretty fantastic. Try it. It's quite refreshing not to get everything you want to see straight away. It's like actually reading a book and not just looking up the content on Wikipedia. Greatness.
